Residential Design, Multi family Dwelling

Goomar Residence

The client brief for the project was to create a contemporary house for a joint family with open spaces at the ground and spaces for leisure at the top. The leisure spaces included a gym, swimming pool with change rooms and a large terrace space for family gatherings. The trapezium site was located strategically at an intersection of plots which opens on to public parks at the front and the rear. The house was conceived in three zones i.e. the stilt for the people with lounge for visitors and recreational spaces for the children, the family units in the middle and the leisure spaces on the top.

The architectural concept was based on the ‘floating and shifting plates’ which created open terraces for each floor. The center of the house was designed as an open space which became a continuum connecting the front and the rear public parks. The core of the house was placed in the middle which connected the floating plates. This also enabled the center to be more porous while incorporating the commons of the house.
